Default Transmission Maintenance

Hello,

I'm getting my oil changed tomorrow and may go ahead and get my transmission fluid changed.

My 04 monte has 136,500 miles on it. I have not changed the fluid since I bought the car with 53,000 miles. It still shifts great with no issues its just one of those things I want to get taken care of.

I'll be taking my car to a small family shop that does great work at reasonable prices, I'd trust taking a ferrari to them if I had one. They've never let me down and I'll always take my car to them.

I don't know if they can do a tranny flush but I know they can do a regular drop the pan method.

First: Recommend what kind of ATF Fluid for me
Second: If they can do a tranny flush, should I get that done? Like I said it still shifts great and haven't had any issues or should I just have them drop the pan.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

see if they use Dexron 6. I'm not sure what year Chevy switched from 3 to 6, but 6 runs a lot cooler.

I am going to bring my own stuff down.

They like to jack the price up if they have to go get the stuff to do the job so all the charge me is the labor ( Which is very reasonable I might add )

I wouldnt get a flush with that high of mileage. Just change the fluid and filter and be on your way. Unless you have alot of gunk and/or metal shavings in the fluid I wouldnt bother with the flush.

duno if this will make sense to you but after so long the trans and fluid are worn together, then suddenly changing the fluid screws it up.
