Default Trans ID

I have to have my Transmission rebuilt, or replace it with another. If I'm replacing it, I assume I have to have one with the same gear ratio. My car is a 2001 Monte Carlo SS. Can anyone tell me what to look for or where to find the information? Thanks in advance.

A 4t65e out of any NA 3800 car will work.

I read that some things changed in the 2003 and newer transmissions that made them incompatible. Not true?
