Default Ticking noise and low oil pressure turn engine off now

I have a 2006 Monte Carlo ss and theres a ticking noise when I turn the car on but goes away when I start driving. I went to a mechanic shop and they say it' the oil pressure pump and it' 1000 to change but I don' think it is because the car reader is saying it' the sensor I don' want to spend a 1000$ so if anyone can help please do.

Hmmm, sounds odd since oil pumps rarely go bad in these cars. Ticking is usually a lifter or rocker arm

Your tech sounds right, if the ticking goes away after coming off idle, it means your oil pump is worn out and isn't able to maintain pressure at idle.

it is the oil pressure sending unit mine did that to try to save the engine. replace that sending unit and go from there it is the cheapest and the best fix.
