Default thermostat question.

So I had to go get my 180* thermostat put in today. and the mechanic said he wouldn't do it because he was worried about the pcm running codes. My question is it that common of this to happen and has anyone had a problem with it, I mean I know the car is ment to run at 195, but he wouldn't even touch my car. So should i just say screw him and go somewhere else?!

what engine is it? there shouldnt be any codes. ideally you should have the pcm retuned for new fan turn on times. but you shouldnt have issues.

Never heard of a 180 Tstat throwing a code on any WBody. The 160 will though and not many people go that route anymore.

Do the 180 and do it yourself. Really easy.

it takes one wrench and abotu 10 min. you will lose maybe a cup of fluid out of the car and have to dry the surface off. put the new gasket in and toss the T-stat back in the same way ya pulled it out. they are even marked on there now adays top and bottom.
parts will cost you less then 20.00 total. and that is with a soda to drink as your doing it.

I did mine in the drive way and actually never had the computer reflashed. and have had NO CODES at all from it.
just do it your self.

That is too funny. I did mine at my brother in laws out on the street. Needed to borrow a wrench from him while I took the dog outside.

Don't you have to remove the Throttle Body and drain the coolant from the radiator before loosening the Bolts to extract the Thermostat?

Definitely no on the TB. You could let some of the coolant out of the petcock on the radiator, but its not necessary. I usually just stuff abotu 4 or 5 rags around it and let them all absorb it- there isn't that much coolant higher than the thermostat housing in the engine.
