I don't think a built trans will be anywhere near $5k.

Check out tripleedgeperformance.com

X2, The trans alone shouldn't be anywhere near 5k but by the time you factor in any upgrades (chain, input, etc.), plus install: which is either:

-driving there (you'd need a place to stay while it's done if it can't be completed that day, food, gas, hotel, etc. all add up too) could be around 4-5k if you are far away and choose to drive/tow your car there

or

-shipping it plus finding a decent place near you to install it correctly, you could also easily end up close to 4000 if your a good distance from their location and have it shipped.

Their street/strip transmission itself wouldn't be too bad if you lived close to their shop and didn't want any of the additional upgrades.

Just some things to consider. When I get a different car to drive everyday, in a few years, I won't be going to triple edge with any less than 5k just in case.. never know how much things will cost until you're nearing your budget for the project and you still need a few things My opinion would be to prepare for the worst (5k) and hope for the best (2500-3500).

Or you can put the transmission in yourself...

And he does do core-returns

Again, I assumed the worst, which is that he wouldn't want to or be able to install himself.

Nonetheless, this is also an option if you have the ability, time, tools, location, etc. It's all relevant, and most certainly will add up if you don't already have these resources.

The 1" chains are going for $2000 by themselves so $5000 for trans built for a turbo is well within reason. I think that is what the was talking about. Plus he said the quote was for a LSD too.

when i needed a trans for mine when i had trans issues. ironically it is a 7th gen but i got one from tripple edge i told them what i was going to do when i payed it of they mentioned the step up and shouldent be a problem. ironically there transmissions shift beautifully and smooth. i am impressed. what i am going to do to mine is a possible turbo plus i needed a trans on top of that why not get it when i do start moding with custum set ups. but i am still impressed how well it shifts

if he is only going with a z3 turbo kit and not getting into engine mods for major power a 1" gmr chain is not needed, a 7/8" chain is plenty.

I wouldn't personally do a turbo build without a 1" chain. That's just me though.

you need the whole hd diff to use the hd half shaft. the shafts them selves are not interchangeable as the hd shaft is shorter and the non hd shaft is longer....

look into tim king for getting a trans built as well, he did mine and i love it! PM me if you want his contact info.

also congrats on the turbo purchase! you will absolutely love it!
did you get the intercooled kit?
