Default son new 2000ss trans HEADACH!!!

I just bought my son a 2000 ss. 125k on the 3800. Did great on the 3, 15-20 minute test drives but after buying it, on the 70 mile drive home, the ckengine litecame on, and trans seemed to be stuck in 2nd or 3rd. I went straight to AZ, pulled codes...all 3 trany. I took it to a transmission shop right then(before i knew about this forum) and he said $1500.00 to rebuild. He said the codes were shift sonlnoids and it had a shaft that was stripped causing my TRaction Control and ABS light, and it needed updates so i had them rebuild it.
Well long story short, i got it back from the shop yesterday and the trans still seems to act up(slip or stick or hard shift on occasion) and thro the check engine lite. He said that was NORMAL on a newly rebuilt trans because it had to re-learn everything...He said to pull over, shut it off, and restart. That seems to work but IS THIS CORRECT or he blowing smoke up my pant leg???
Also if he rebuilt the trans and its still giving me problems, COULD IT BE THE PCM causing that type of trans issue.
Please advise

Your catalytic converter may be clogged up. I have heard of people having problems with their trans acting up when their converter was clogged. Not sure why it does that but with 125000 miles I would say there is a good chance your converter is clogged. Maybe someone who has had the same problem will chime in.

clogged cat will cause a feeling of slippage and hard shifting, it will be like the computer is hunting for the shift point. In reality the computer is, when its increasing fuel/air it checks the o2 sensor and see's high fuel cause the cat is not working properly. it in turn lowers fuel mixture and starves motor, this causes the tranny to not want to shift because it needs more power. this will be most evident in high rpm's or under a load, like climbing hills.

Update..Took it back to trans shop, they replaced the pcs solonoid and a harness and trans is perfect now. BUT now the steering seems messed up.
It was tight and centered, not it pulls slightly to the left and there seems to be some play in steering wheel.
Any thoughts.
