Rough Shifting Transmission.

Depending which solenoid is bad - TCC solenoid is ~80 bucks, pressure control solenoid is ~50 bucks
Including labor you're looking at a good $600-$700... The dealer will probably charge you more than $1000...
You have to remove the cover of the trans to get to the solenoids - which means you either have to pull the engine/trans or drop the cradle and drop the trans down
Not cheap that's for sure, which is why I'm doing it myself lol

I have the same problem. I dont drive my car Long enought for it to happen offten. Ive owned my 05 monte for over 2 years and its probly happend to me 4 times. once i notice it I pull over turn car off for 5 mins and its fine...
nitehawkjcb : The Trans Pan Looks Vary Easy to Un-blot and remove. Why would u have to remove the engine or drop tranny? Is it not possible to change silinodds from Underneath?

WOW...not too many responses to my question about the rough shifting.....guess no Monte Carlo owners are experiencing this issue on a common GM transmission problem.I saw a pic of the solenoid that controls shifting and line pressure and it figures that its made out of plastic! No surprise to me of the quality parts that GM uses in their vehicles! No wonder they have so many issues with their products!

Thanks guys for your input concerning my issue. I usually have it in the overdrive mode but i have tested it out in the 3 speed mode with the same thing happening. I would stop for a few minutes and turn the engine off and then after about 10 minutes or a quick run to the store,it would shift well until about another half hour of normal driving and then start to rough shift again. I will wait until it becomes more consistant in nature then take it to my dealer and see what they will charge me for the repair.

mine was the pressure control switch......part was around 60.00 plus your gaskets, screen and fluids about 5 litre i think. I'm fortunate i have a GM mechanic i can turn to....it was 400.00 to repair about 800.00 at the dealer or even the local tranny shops. You have to drop the front sub frame and support the engine and tranny.....the freakin solenoid is on the side and that's the only way to get at it and a hoist is pretty well a must.....he told me if it continues to shift hard it will screw the bands because of the high pressure...if you are able to park it till you get it fixed it might be wise with the warmer weather ......sorry to be the bearer of bad news
