Default Redline D4 or D6?

My 2004 SS Supercharged just hit 100,000 miles!!!

I dropped the pan and changed the filter ~30,000 miles ago. I used the AC Delco filter, and Redline D4 ATF. ~22,000 miles before that I changed the filter and used Amsoil ATF. Now, I am thinking of using Redline D6 ATF. The fluid is dirty and smells burnt and when you check it there are bubbles.

Any opinions on a better ATF for this transmission?

Why not just go with the manufacturer recommended and not beat on it. There's a recommended fluid for a reason. As long as you maintain it (change fluid, filter etc) you shouldn't have an issue.

Dexron VI is what's recommended, if you searched the topic this is what you would come up with:

Oh ok.. thanks. I got the owners manual out of the glove box and on page 6-12 Recommended Fluids and Lubricants for the Automatic Transaxle it says DEXRON®-III Automatic Transmission Fluid.

Good to go... that stuff is cheap too. Thanks!!!!!!

I would not use any of the Dexron III on the market. None of them are licensed or approved by GM anymore. GM updated to formula for Dexron, changing it dramatically. GM only licenses Dexron VI now, which is backwards compatible with Dexron III.

Valvoline makes a fully synthetic version of Dexron VI, i've used it my cars entire life and i'm at 165K. I change my tranny fluid every 25-35K.

x2 for OEM. The fluid shouldn't be that burnt and dirty after 30k either.

Special trans fluid isn't going to prevent the kind of issues we have with the transmissions.

What makes you suspect I have a gasket leak on the pan? I never leave a drop of fluid on my garage floor.
