Default Performance Question

Has anyone actually seen any improvement from simply adding a K&N filter? Yeah the practically last forever, and the sound is cool. But a power increase?

just the replacement filter? that won't change the sound really, i can maybe see a little increase in air flow but not really a performance upgrade.

If you're talking about the K&N cold air intake, then that is supposed to help with horsepower but with the cheap heatshield that they used, I don't believe it works as well as some of the others like the Wizaired. The cold air intake will be the one to make the sound a lot louder though.

The reason I ask is because the BMW I just sold (to buy the monte) I put the k&N filter and the sound was awesome, Kinda like flipping the top of a air cleaner over so you could hear a Holley opening up (old skool stuff). But performance wise did nothing to the BMW. Ive got the 3.9 and havent had a chance to look to see how restrictive our intake is. Thats why I thought I'd ask.

our stock intakes are pretty restrictive within the box itself, the tubing isn't the worst but has grooves in it which can restrict the airflow.

One thing you can do is run a K&N filter to the fenderwell, giving you a better sound and better performance, it's like a cold air intake but in the fenderwell where it is still pulling in cold air because it is sealed from the engine bay.
