PCM chips/stuff for 3.4L Monte
well I've been searching around for PCM chips and reprogramming stuff.... and it looks like my options are limited here
is there ANYTHING out there for the 3.4L? I've seen nothing from hypertech or jet, but maybe I missed something...
maybe I should just pony up a little extra cash and get a SS 3.8L?

The 3.8 supercharged totally owns. Not only does it make 240HP, 280 torque, the monte is lowered an inch or so, and gets a stronger tranny and stiffer suspension. But I would stick with the LS for everyday driving. I don't think they really make a hypertech type thing for it, but there is alot of other stuff u can do. I know there is a variety of intake and exhaust options for it. Im looking at maybe getting this when I get enough money.

first off what year monte with 3.4? cause there are chips over at 60degreeV6.com for the ones before 95 and for 96 and 97 you will need a DHP power tuner... i have one and love it. it lets you tune it yourself... and if you want to spend the$$$ you can take ti to a local dyno and get so real good tuning done.
jet and hypertech usedto make a chip for our cars. the hypertech was mainly to control their colder Tstat and the jet modified the PCM. both were dyno test and did not show any noticable gains. DHP is proven to make power. the 3.4 is not well tested with dyno tunes...but it is up to the user to make the proper adjustments for power...i say get a power tuner!

lets say its a 2003 3.4L monte. what are my options? and what is the best choice?
is the 2003 3.4L chip removable? (I am new to this pcm stuff)
oh, and has anyone seen pcmforless.com? It looks pretty good. But I think it's something where you have to send in the chip and they reprogram it for you..
thoughts?

first off there is no 03 3.4L the 3.4L DOHC was discontinued in 97. you are talking about the 3400 engine. DHP sells chips for them... so you wont need the tuner unless you want to mod it yourself or plan more upgrades. their chip is deff worth it cause in addition to makeing more power, it adjusts shift points and other stuff to make it faster.
if you buy the chip from DHP you will need to swap it in... if you buy a programer, you wont have to touch the chip... you jsut plug the programer in under the dash at the OBD2 port.

This gets my attention, I didn't know they made the chip for the 3400. So would I just have to buy the chip, take the computer out (its below the glove box right?), then open it up and swap chips? Ive seen it done on some shows on TV, didn't look too hard. Also how do you adjust shift points ect.?

If you re-program your computer to gain power, won't you lose gas mileage? Also running on premium would be expensive. If so I would consider other mods before the DHP. I've heard that exhaust and intake will actually give you better mileage along with horsepower.
