7th Gen ('06-'07): P0171 & p0561

P0561 means the battery voltage to the PCM is low or unstable. P0171 means the upstream O2 sensor has detected a lean condition. It's possible the low voltage is making it diffcult for the PCM to store fuel trim data which is creating a lean condition. I'd start by cleaning the battery cable connections and check battery voltage Check the charging system for proper operation. Check and clean the wiring connector at the PCM. Reset the CEL and see if the codes come back.

sorry to bring up a some what old thread. I filled up with e85 yesterday in my 06 3.5L flex, and today i have some weird issues comeing up. one i have the p0171 code, also my transmission is sifting earlyer and firmer. If i reset the pcm by pulling the negative battery cable the code as well as the sifting issues go away for around 2-3 miles then come back. I was wondering if this could be related to the e85 or if i need to find the vacume leak? thanks Travis

Travis,
I have the 06 with 3.5 and e85 did some goofy things with my car. I was advised bye the local dealership to mix it 50-50 with regular gas and run 87 for a tank since it has no ethanol. I didnt have any tranny issues but mine would not start very good. When I ran to much e85 I would start the car in the mornings and it would immediately die, try starting it again and it was fine. Good Luck

i do think its the e85. I got it home and put in 5 gal of 87 octane and the shifting issues were intermittent. I drove it until i could get another 3 gal of 87 into it then parked it. we will see what happens now. I am convinced that it is the e85 as all the problems started the day after the e85 fill up and now that im putting 87 in it their getting better. only time will tell tho, i will keep posting as i learn new things and when this tank is used up and 87 octane filled up the real test will begun.
