Overkill Tune, opinions needed lol
Alright so I figured I'd try and get you guys opinion on this.....
I'm ready to place my order for an overkill tune, but im debating whether I should go with an 87 or 91 tune... I don't mind paying the little extra $ at the pump but with my N/A motor and little mods I do have, is getting a 91 tune even worth it?
The only "mods" I have are: 180 tstat, Wizaired CAI, zzp downpipe, shorter resonator, and I did a tiny bit of porting to the LIM when I swapped the motor lol
That's basically it though, and that's the way it's going to stay
So 87 or 91?
Which one will kill my Trans faster??? lm Jk lol it's supposed to help reduce tran stress from what I read? And I need the p0420 code gone!
Does Will do that? I only see something about disabling SES lights. Communication with him isn't the fastest either haha

If he tunes for higher octane fuel, that means he'll bump the timing up a touch. If you don't mind the extra cost it's perfectly fine to get.
Will can remove the P0420 code. He can also remove the EGR codes and such.
Since you have the 180, he'll also lower your fan turn-on speeds to probably 185-190 from the 212 that it currently is.
Make sure you note if you don't want him to cut off your AC when your throttle is pressed all the way down.

If you can run on 87 why not tune for that? Fuel prices are only going to get worse, did you see how California a couple months back was popping $5.00 per gallon....
The 420 code can be eliminated if you stop letting your pothead nephew use your Monte..... ha ha

I actually asked Will his opinion on this question when I got my tune. He told me that he honestly recommended the 87 tune. Keep in mind, I was daily driving my car at the time (110 miles a day at that). But he said that I would not feel the difference with 91 octane, and i'd see maybe 2-3 whp from it. Not worth it in my opinion.

Actually, the standard Overkill tune seems to kick the A/C off at 1/2 throttle or more. I've never had this be an issue on a hot day...at most the A/C gets warm for a second or two, then you are back to freezing cold. I like that it shuts off, makes for good passing, etc, without having to think about whether or not its on.

start a tune as in if I were to do it myself. but yea I guess it all depends where u live. Im in Minnesota and I'm filling up with 93. it's only 3.39 a gallon. I can definitely feel the difference. but im supercharged so that mite make a difference?
