Default Overheating and Squeal

Hey, my 2000 Monte Carlo LS just recently started overheating and once it gets to a certain temp it starts making a high pitch squeal. I would like to know what it is so I can get it fixed. Thank you.

Maybe a little more info might help. When it overheats is it pushing coolant into the overflow ? Is coolant getting on belt ? Does it sound like a belt squeal or a metal on metal squeal ? At what temp is this happening ? Being from Iowa, was the coolant frozen or low due to a leak ? I'm sure you'll get more reply's from members if you can give us more information.

Most likely a water pump. While running drop water on the belt...if the squeal goes away it is a pulley...if not it is the belt. Try to watch the water pump and look for any wiggle motion. It should not move. If it does it is bad. Good luck.

I've actually figured out what it is. My thermostat is stuck closed and the squeal is a whistle from the engine being hot.
Thank you for trying to help though.
