Default over heating

Hi I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS and its over heating. I put in a new water pump and thermostat because the water pump had gone out. I noticed the fans aren't kicking on to cool the engine either. I want to know what to check and where for my over heating problem.

Make sure you bled the air out of the system. Air pockets in the cooling system get read as hotter temps then the actual fluid, throw off the reading on your temp gauge.

If all air appears bled out of the system, see if you can obtain an ODB-II scan tool that can give out what the sensor readings are. Verify that the reading from the temp sensor per the scan tool is about the same as your dash gauge. If it's way off, trust what the scan tool says (as that's what the computer reads and works with, thus, the data going to the instrument cluster is bad or the cluster itself is bad).
