Unhappy Over heating 3400 sometimes

Hey guys and gals,
I decided to come here for an answer instead of facebook. lol
My 01 3400 has 163xxxmi she is my daily so I do depend on her and am not prepared to purchase a new car.
She has started to warm up on me lately to the 3/4 mark. As soon as I put on heat she will come down to normal temp., the issue at hand is the air is cold. I do get warm air in there at times too.
Did a flush and fill after the water pump was changed a few good months back, mid to late summer. Prior to changing the pump I had aused stop leak till the part came in to fix it. When it first warmed up'd on me a few weeks back I checked the fluid. I used the quick release cap and once I pulled the cap off it steamed a little bit. Problem mostly went away, thinking it may have been an air bubble.
I checked again yesterday and it was almost a gallon low on coolant fluid, naturally I checked the oil immediately and nothing mixed in there.

Is there a blockage, new thermostat, new head gaskets new car?

Any help is appreciated.

I would guess air in the system... sounds like you're low on coolant because it's not being flushed properly, then it finally gets pulled into the system so it seems like it's gone.

PS - I came here via FB

Hi `Bait,
It sounds like it could be a bad thermostat ? Did you put a new one in when you did the flush & water pump ?
*(I don't like stop leak products, unless it's an emergency)

Check back on your thread & see what our more expert member's posts on your problem > Good Luck<

Ya i had to use it. =/ work school and only car. The leak was on the water pump gasket so I replaced the whole thing.
The issue seems worst when colder out.
The thermo in the 3400 is a pain, looks like my next step along with a professional flush.

My buddy that always works on cars did it. He has been reliable. But that is what leads me to the Barrs stop leak. It is all over my radiator cap when I pull it off.

I am ashamed to say that she was very thirsty, she downed a gallon.
I have also replaced the radiator cap also and have not had an issue as of yet.
Now to determine which thermostat I would like to get...hmmmm
