Default oil psi question

does anybody have any idea what would make the oil pressure in my car suddenly go up? its a mechanical guage and i have used a 2nd one just in case so its not a guage problem. i used to idle at 25ish psi and now i idle at 40-42psi. if i go W0T i hit almost 80psi and cruizing at hwy speeds im pushing 60+ psi. any ideas what would cause this?

as far as I know if it's not the gauge then oil pressure goes up because of some kind of blockage in the system. and the car is pushing more at it to try to get it through.

How's your oil filter? And are you using 5w-30? How's your oil pump itself?

Could the sensor be bad? My mom's Bonneville was registering 0 oil pressure, and it was the sensor...

Default Oil Pressure Gauge issue

As I went to change my oil pressure sensor this weekend, i noticed the line was cut. It was a clean cut and i had enough line to splice them together with a wire clamp. I also changed the oil pressure sensor because I thought that is why the gauge was intermittent...I figure while I was down there I might as well change it...Not just splice the line...

Well, now the gauge works 8 out of 10 times...a few times now the oil pressure gauge on the instrument panel doest tell me the Oil pressure. It doesnt pop on like it normally should.

can someone tell me what may be the problem???

New sensor- spliced wires were tight when I left it...(maybe thats the problem, it needs to be connected better)...

any tips would be great...

surprisingly, the oil pressure gauge would work even with one wire still connected (only every now and then, not consistent though).

It's a long shot, but the actual gauge itself could be going bad on the instrument cluster.

Sometimes people's speedometers go bad, sometimes the tachometer...
