Default Oil Consumption

Hello all. Anyone out there having oil consumption problems. I own 01 Monte SS, no leaks at all, looks good underneath. I know there was a TSB about this (chevy's way of recognizing a problem but NOT addressing it) but wanted to know if anyone on the forum had any ideas. I change oil every 3000K, faithfully. I even went to Amsoil for a while but with the consumption I went back to conventional oil.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanx!

All engines will consume oil over a certain period of time. The reality is that no engine is perfect, and some engines will consume more then others.

Now back to your issue. How bad is your oil consumption?A quart a week? A month? Empty overnight?
Im assuming your engine is the 3.8L supercharged.

What condition is the oil in? Black and burnt smelling? Does it feel like its gritty when you rub it between your fingers? We can defininitally help you but we need more info.

Sorry about the lack of info so here goes: 2001 3.8L (not supercharged), 100,000K, going through 1 qt. every 3000K and if driving more highway I'll go through more than that. The more highway driving I do the more oil consumption.

As for the oil's condition, it' OK, definately not burnt/smelly -- not gritty.

Would you suggest an oil flush next time I do an oil change, do you think that would help? Someone also suggested Lucas oil stabilizer - what are your thoughts on that?

Thanks!

lucas works great, and could help with that problem, but a car with 100k on it is going to burn oil, 1 quart every 3000 miles isn't bad, its not good, but its not tooooo bad

i would try lucas

I would try a Engine Oil Bypass Kit. Keeps the Oil from going into the Engine Block. Car runs cooler and Oil lasts longer.
