Default Oil Change

My change oil message came on so last weekend I went ahead and changed it. My question is that the message didn't clear and go away. From my understanding it would've went away on it's own. Was I wrong in this and need to do something to clear it or could it be a bad sensor?

What year is your monte???

2001 - present require you to manually reset it. Search the forum for information related to resetting the change oil light as I am pretty sure we covered it.
