New Tranny Price?
Unfortunately today I blew my trans when a gear blew through the housing and broke into 4 pieces and sent trans fluid all over the street. It's over at the chevy dealer now but does anyone have a rough estimate on how much a new trans is going to run me? i'm probably going to have to get a loan cause this is my daily driver and my only car.

If you tell your dealership that you want a used trans, they can probably get one for around $400-1000 depending on the miles.
Or you can source your own used trans for $200-500 and bring it to them.
If you let them buy new it will be $2800+
Then if you buy used you can negotiate the labor. I got mine to be a firm $500 no matter how long it took them.

If you just take it into the dealer and say my trans broke, fix it, they will put a new transmission in it...your looking right around 3K out the door. (they should give you a warranty on it though)

The route I took, was I bought a used trans and it has a 1 year parts + labor on it for $800
Then I had my dealership/mechanic install it (they were my mechanic before they were a dealership) and got them to do the labor for $500 flat.

(note when I say local, I mean in NEPA where my parent's live since that's where my mechanic is)

Thats a good option to keep in mind! (although, I hope I don't need to think about it..LOL) The only thing that kinda sucks is that we lack junk yards around here...
BTW, the other day when the mechanic at the Chevy dealer drove my car, he told me it felt really strong/ healthy. I asked him how reliable the transmissions were...he said that they are actually pretty good tranny's. He said he honestly does not see many come through that need fixed or repaired. I undertand he works for them...but he seemed pretty honest. He told me he see lots of the 4L60E truck tranny's come through. But he said thats usually because people tow with them, and don't take well enough care of them.

I have different gearing? I thought only the 4T65E HD tranny had different gearing?
