new engine
I have coolant leaking into my engine, and since I don't care and it's really a second car, I was wondering if I could put a V8 motor in it. Right now it's the 3.4l V6 2001 LS, and it's just not worth getting fixed. If I cannot get a v8, what is the most powerful engine I could put into it without having to change everything.

RE: new engine
I actually thought about that a while back. The new 2006 Monte SS comes with a 5.3L V8. I took a look at the engine bay and chasis, and it is essentailly identical to the 2000-2005 Monte. I'm sure there would be some alot of custom work to get the V8 into your monte though. Another big problem would be the drivetrain. Obviously your 3400 tranny isn't going to stand up to a 303HP V8.

RE: new engine
I have a neighbor who is salivating over my monte. He is a professional engine builder and a chevy man to the bone. He has been wanting to put an LT1 in a '00-'05 for quite some time, he just never had a subject car. Every time the subject comes up, he asks me if I am ready for a new motor yet. I don't want to do something like that to this car because it is still pretty new. He tells me that he could get it done for me with 3-year warranty for about $2,100. I'm tempted, but I still have factory warranty for another 40, 000+ miles.

$2,100 for a LS1 conversion? Engine, trans and rearend? Where do I sign up???
Are these cars set up for RWD? Seems like it would take a great deal of engineering to strengthen the frame structure to go RWD...
