I am trying to figure out what kind of motor to install in my 83 monte CL. I know a lot of people go with the built up 350 or the 383 stroker. But I am looking to do something different. Does anyone know how a 4.3L bored and stroked would perform and with a possible supercharger or turbo on it. Again I am just curious.

the 4.3 has the same bore and stroke as the 350 sbc. theres alot of parts for the 4.3 theres stroker cranks,headers,heads,cams .
there was a article in a performance mag about a 4.3 build up for a s-10 that they where using for a drag truck .

But I am looking to do something different.
That would be something different in a 4th gen for sure, and all the better with a trans and rear end that would be able to handle the power. If you wanted the old school style- you could do an L26 (or an L67 with an L26 top end)- stick a turbo on it, and have a modern version of the GN powertrain.

i thought the 4.3 is chevy v6 not the v8? the reason why i have said that is because i have seen alot of the older v6's from chevy are the 4.3 v6. which you can get a turbo or a supercharger set up with ease. because of the whole gnx monte phonomonon back in the 80's when they were using the 4.3 v6 for a turbo set up and a supercharger setup. hence the same reson why ford had the super cougar and super byrd that are the 3.8 from ford as well as the svo mustangs to compete with cheve of that time period

My two cents on the situation would be to build a screaming 283 because they are extremely rare yet they are very underrated. I know a guy who built a 283 with 400 something horses that scream and rev to 8000 plus rpm. I think this would be really cool under a 83 monte hood.

I have a Camaro. I went to the Chevy dealer, bought a Fastburn 385, which is a 385 HP 350 ci motor. Also bought and installed the GM HOT cam and roller rockers. That brought the HP to about 430. GM has a bunch of performance engines you can buy form 327's all the way to 502 big block V-8's. I don't think they have any performance oriented v6's though - of course as you said, you could build one.

Wow. Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it. But from what is sounds is that if I want to go with a V6 engine it would be better to go with the 3.8L/Turbo grand national/regal T setup. And I spoke with a few motorheads that do nothing but build motors and they said it would be easier, more common parts, and better HP to go with a 383. Well when the time comes I guess its all up to me and I will have to just post the pics when I get the motor I choose put in. Again thanks for all the info and still feel free to post any other thoughts I will check back for more.
