you have a 3.4 dohc and i dont think there is much out there unless your a good fabrik8er
but if it's just for the track the cheapest way is nitrous but if its for the street then you will have to look at somthing elese
did you look at a regrind cam ? and maybe you could get some headers ,under drive pullys ,ecu reprograming , port & polish heads and intake
and i am sure there is more !!!

L67/4t65E swap. Also get the PCM with that combo.... it'seasier to work with than the one out of your 97.... www.motorswap.org

This topic has been covered to death already. If you have money, and want more than 20-30HP out of your NA motor, swap it to a SC, or turbo it. Since the DOHC doesn't really have a kit out there for a turbo or SC, you are pretty much limited in terms of what it close in terms of plug and playability, so that leaves a complete motor swap to the 3800 Series II.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide to do, and what questions you have after you've read up on it. Happy reading! :-)

+100 crank or wheel horsepower? That does make a difference, you figure 100 whp ~= 120 crank horsepowe.

Next, you say you have the money to do it- how much money exactly are you looking to spend?

The next big thing is the fact that the 3.4dohc has virtually no aftermarket. I would say gaining 100 whp NA is almost out of the question. I suppose it is faintly possible- if you had a full port job done on the heads and intake- some custom cams made, custom pistons to up compression ratio a good bit- but I think you'd have one heck of a time doing it. I imagine you could easily wrap up $5k+ into this if you didn't have hookups.

Your second option would be adding boost. A turbo (or CSC) would be easier than doing a positive displacement blower because there aren't any that will bolt right up (like on a 3800). With a good IC'd turbo setup and some tuning, I think 100 whp gain is pretty achievable- from what I remember there were a couple of 3.4 dohcs that have broken 300 whp on a turbo. I would assume you'd probably be in the $3k-4k range, depending how crazy you go on parts and what kinda deal you can get on someone welding the manifolds for you.

Your third option would be to put it on the bottle. This is probably the cheapest option in the short term. You could do a basic 100 wet shot- should give you roughly 100 whp gain. This is probably the cheapest option because even a fully optioned out nitrous setup would be under $1k- and install would be by far the easiest out of all of them.

The problem with the above 3 options is you still would have the crappy 4t60 trans- its not really known for handling high power levels well.

Your forth option is what Lav suggested- an L67 w/ a 4t65hd swap. You could probably pull this off for $2k or less depending what kinda price you get on a powertrain. This alone wouldn't give a 100whp gain though- you should have about 215 crank hp stock (say 170 whp), an L67 would probably do about 195-200 whp stock. However, trying to hit 270 whp (your stock + 100) with an L67 would be much easier and cheaper due to the extemely large aftermarket for it. As long as you did a cam before you dropped it in, it should be cake to hit 270.

lol who told you that? thats a good one. I sure would hope a 3.4L dohc FI V6 w/ a supercharger would do more than 215 crank horsepower.
