Personally, I would do all of the basic maintenance on your current engine, do a full tune-up, then buy this:

ZZPerformance - ZZP Z3 Turbo Kit #ZZ-Z3TK

Get a really good tune from a reputable shop, not a mail order tune and enjoy the car. After the turbo, I would slowly put away about $100-$200 a month into a savings account for when the transmission goes.

Then when the inevitable happens, I would talk to Dave at TripleEdgePerformance.com and get your trans rebuilt properly

When you speak of a good tune are you referring to modifying OBC or PCM settings or adding something like the Diablo tuner.

Does anyone have a recommended shop for performance tuning in the Richmond, VA to Raleigh, NC region?

I'm pretty sure there is a dyno in Virginia Beach, just can't think of the name. Dynos are like $500 too. I could do a basic tune for you. I'm an hour south of Chesapeake.

Where is your shop located? I am in Chase City VA, close to South Hill. About where I85 goes into NC.
