Default Near Disaster

Good afternoon all... Last night was a kind of a crappy night... On the highway at about 60mph I noticed white smoke bellowing out the back... I immediately pulled over and checked under the hood, I noticed (what I thought was oil) sprayed all over the engine cover and passenger side of the car, not good... I had no warnings from the engine light or cell, temp, oil pressure were both good and the dip stick was full, so I gingerly drove her home... I was thinking it was the front seal, which will mean a rebuild...... So this morning I was at the performance shop and discovered it was the upper coolant elbow...woooohooooo... I went from spending $5,000 for a motor to a couple hundred dollar repair...... I will be putting in my rockers and L67 coils at the same time on Tuesday... Dodged a bullet...

Didnt I warn you about this elbows when I was up there damien? Did you get the aluminum ones installed? Its a quick $25 fix if you do it yourself. Guess you can keep saving for that turbo.

That could have really sucked. Glad to hear it was something simple instead of having to do a rebuild.

Yah, I replaced those POS plastic elbows with the aluminum ones last year. Piece of mind! When you're in there put a new waterpump in too. No sense doing that work and using the old water pump. And if you can't remember when you last replaced the belt, well, you get it.

Sweet, lol, I bet your pucker factor was way up there, I know mine always is when something crazy happens. Expect the worst and hope for the best. Cool it was some cheesy repair. Now you have the opportunity to really detail your engine bay again for the 40th time...

glad it was only coolant elbows!! just so you know if a front seal goes bad it can be changed in the car very easily you wouldnt need a complete rebuild

Thanks guys... Your right Greg, my heart sank faster than a 50 lbs anvil... It was a great feeling when the mechanic asked me to gently rev and immediately said got it nothing major...... No rebuild required for a front seal is pretty cool, guess I'm stuck in my big block days where a main seal was automatic, good to know thank you,...
