My 305

My 305
I have an 83 Monte with a 305 and I am curious to know if it is possible to bore and stroke it to a 383. I know this is done with 350s but I am wondering if its the same block and if its doable. This would be a lot easier for me instead of buying a 350 then having it done. Thanks forthe answers and advice anyone can give.

RE: My 305
I recently rebuilt a 350 4bolt main for my 81 silverado. She runs great etc., etc., but if I had to do it all over again I would have bought an assembled crate motor from either GM or Summitt. I spent way more then I should have and most of this was due to machining.
Your better off staying away from a stroker 305. I remember my brother and I built a pretty hot 307 Chevy back in the day. We took some double hump heads, cam, headers, threw a four speed tranny, 411's and some other goodies and she ran like a striped *** ape. We pretty much blew everyones doors off in the sbc and ford arena, but when that engine went one night rods, pistons, pieces of cam shaft etc could be found in a tri-block area. Those main caps are not strong enough for more then 350hp unless you really spend some money to build it strong.

RE: My 305
that sounds like every stroker i've ever known. they just don't hold up. if you want something to own the drag strip, or even a really fast and fun daily driver that may hold upa year or so if driven reasonably, go ahead, but the truth of the matter is they just don't hold up.

RE: My 305
A guy who lived near me some time ago had a '57 Chevy with a built up 307 under the hood. It wasn't a bad engine but it worked itself to death trying to stay up with my 327 in my '57.
If we'd have both had the same transmission and rear gears I doubt his 307 would have even got near my 327?

RE: My 305
i have been building 305 for a bit now and after i am done with them no 350 around can keep up (stock to mild )
you have to spend a bit more money because they are less populer but to be diffrent i am willing to spend a couple of extra $$
i made a 350hp 305 about 5 years ago and the guy that i sold it to is still running it to this day
