take off all the smog related items

take out the cat

install an electric fan, and remove the fan mounted on the engine that frees up some

Probably not much HP to gain without doing some work to the motor. I would save the money and buy a 350 to build.

what dont you want to do to the motor? you can get a set of torquer heads, aluminum intake, little holley carb, and a small cam, but the gain isnt worth the time or money. it would only be fair to say that 305s have been known to make ok power and people do stroke them, but for the time and effort it would be better to start with more cubes.

I would want to built stock engine but thats me. everyone builds 350s for these why not do a quick 305 or new gen 305 drop from a wreck.

because the 305s suffer from valve shrouding. you cant run big valve heads on them. idk how long the 305 ran but im going to assume that the wildest ones were the tpi ones. they really werent all that. they didnt really make any power and they fell flat on there face after 4500rpm. not exactly what you want in a muscle car. daring to be different is one thing, being foolish is another. theres lots of good reasons why you see everyone building 350s.

thats why i said or drop a new gen 305 in it. my moms yukon has one. Lot of power does not fall flat.

what year is her yukon? regardless of the year the 305 cant run big valve heads, and if he were to go through the trouble of doing a motor swap why swap in one of the exact same displacement?
