Default M90 on a 3400?

Hey all I want to push as much hp I can out of my 3400 and was wondering if I move some stuff under the good, would I be able to bolt on a m90 supercharger from a 3800. I found one at a salvage yard for 50 bucks and don't want to pass this offer up. Will this work? If it does, what else would I need?

It will not bolt up. I have never seen anyone make it work either. You'd have to swap the entire supercharged 3800 engine.

An M90 is not going to work as already stated. There's just no room for it. GM did make a M62 supercharger that is smaller and would work, but would still require plenty of custom work and with far less gains.

The 3400 is a good engine, and it has good mid/high power. Look into putting a turbo on it.

I know the Grand Am guys have bolted super chargers (that look like the unit from the 3800 S/C, but I don't think it is) and turbo chargers to the 3400.

There are some small mods to bump up performance a little, but I think you'd be be money ahead getting a different Monte that came with either a 3800 or 3800 S/C. Not saying you can't do anything with the 3400, I just feel it's more costly for what you might get out of it on a bigger car like the Monte.

For grins, i Google-image searched Grand Ams with Superchargers. I came across a couple (which would be the best bet for a Monte) and then one that I think is just plane silly (not sure it's a Grand Am based on the upper engine mounts).

Ok so what turbo would you guys think will work. I don't want to just bolt up any turbo and blow my car up. So basing on the stock 3400 performance, what turbo will be the right amount of boost and power without the cam through the block lol.

MMS 3100/3400/3500 Grand Am/N-body Turbo Kit - Milzy Motorsports

Wot-tech.com

Triple Edge Performance - Home Page

Plus then you would want to upgrade your suspension.
BMR Suspension - The Leader in High Performance Suspension & Chassis
Bushings motor tranny mounts
Brakes pending on rim size and would at least do a F Body brake upgrade.

All in all $10,000.
5-6k turbo
3k Fully built tranny
2K MISC

For the price of a turbo kit for a 3400 you can get a low mileage 3800, cam it and build it to 250-280 whp.... just saying.

But remember, since we have such a small aftermarket basically anything aftermarket for our car is high. If you piece together your own kit like a lot of the Grand Am guys do it'll be much, much cheaper.

Secondly, not everyone knows how or has the tools to swap an engine, plus the cost of shipping and hauling a 3800 around, so that'll add a few grand to the price. Even more depending on which shop would put in the engine.
