LIM Mod
So a couple months ago, I bought a spare/donor LIM for the L36 to work on. I've done a lit of reading from the folks on the Bonneville forum and it appears to be common for those guys to "port match" the lower intake to the heads (not to be confused with "gasket matching", this is different).
From all my reading and questions with the folks on the Bonneville forum, they got this concept down pat. Excluding the enjector boss, you want to make the port more rectangular (widest point is .9" and tallest point it 1.9").
Using a caliper to measure, I found and marked the widest point. I also found using a speed square, I can draw a line as a guide for where I need to trim. The trick is to not just widen the port, but make sure it follows through the runner (so you don't do all this work to leave a bottle neck).
Attached are pics of what the LIM looked like when I first brought it home and the others are what I did this weekend. Three ports done and three more to go!

Nice efforts, anything to milk a few more horse power from the engine. A lot of work , what are your performance gain expectations? What are your end goals, internals and such? Happy for you and your Monte....

- Modified L67 Throttle Body (I have a different thread about that)
- This LIM
- ZZP PLOG
- HV3
- ZZP ER Rockers
- I already have a ZZP 2.5" Down Pipe with High Flow Cat
- I already have a drop in K&N air filter
- And finally, a PCM tune
My end goal is to see how much more power I can squeeze out of my L36 within reasonable cost and effort. All my efforts are on the top end (I am not interested in a CAM or anything on the bottom end of the motor). Since I don't have access to a dyno, I'm not sure what HP changes will be at play. But if you can feel it, then what I'm up to is worth it.

Good job so far. However that's just port matching, not modding. Maybe in a week, I will post some pictures of my modded LIM and Gasket to take advantage of the HV3 & UIM runner layout that turns it into a short tunnel-ram! (each runner is a venturi exiting at high-speed, at the injector). That would give you some ideas.

How do you figure that's "not modding"? I am in fact "modifying" the factory factory design to improve air flow through the engine. I believe that does in fact classify as "modding"....

Update: LIM Port Matching - DONE!
I finally had a chance this weekend to finish what I started!! I finished port matching the last side of the donor LIM. I also spent some time doing more to "de-burr" the runners. I think everything looks nice, next step is, installing this and seeing if it also RUNS nice! I also could not help myself, I used one of my Dremel bits to scribe Maniac SS in big letters on the underside (not my finest work with the Dremel).
Late last week the aluminum LIM gaskets arrived. So, I am all set for a good weather day to rip my Monte apart and install me some MODS!

Thanks guys!
Now it's a matter of time until it gets put on my Monte. I need a nice clear day to rip apart the Monte, install my mods and put her back together. I'm anxious to get it all done!
