Default Leaking T-stat housing!

So 2 days ago (I think lol) I noticed that my tstat housing has been leaking a tiny bit of coolant, it turned into nasty looking gunk around the edges :p so I decided to change my Tstat gasket and i noticed today that it's still doing it
My question is, can I used some RTV on the housing to seal it up some more?

Notice the yellowish gunk around the housing :p

Clean the mating surfaces with a piece of sandpaper on a flatboard, then apply a thin coat of RTV to both sides of the gasket to fill any slight imperfections in the mating surfaces.

Well the housing doesn't have a gasket, just on around the lip of the thermostat which sits inside the LIM

Sorry about that. I was answering an email about a SBC and had it on my mind. After cleaning the mating surfaces with a flatboard apply a thin coat of grease to the o-ring and a thin coat of RTV to the mating surface of the housing.

I always use black, I have used stuff that stays flexiable and ended up leaking again
