Kind of a noob, tranny question....
So i've been in the game awhile and feel stupid for asking...but does my 04 ss supercharged have an HD tranny? I know in the old 97-03 there were HD and non HD. Reason why i am asking is because i have 75k and my tranny went out. The guy that rebuilt it said the fourth clutchshaft was chewed up. Which i believe to my knowledge means i'm making too much power or shifting to fast? Well anyway i've owned two GTP's before this. One had 145k and no replacement. The other had 180k before replacement. I drove my GTP's hard, like always on it from every light, burnouts several times a day, etc, etc. I Hardly ever beat on my monte. I've only driven it for 15k which i don't think is enough time to destroy it. I also called up the dealership and he said that all 04 and newer have the same part number. So does this mean they are all HD or nonHD? If it truly isn't and HD that means i truly am making way too much power. Thanks guys for any and all help.

Hi `Art,The supercharged SS comes with a Heavy DutyTransmission. I believe it's a[:-]4T65E-HDThe 4T65E-HD (code MN7) is a heavy duty version of the 4T65-E used with V8 engines like the LS4 V8 and L67/L32 supercharged V6.

RE: Kind of a noob, tranny question....
You definately got the 4t65e-HD tranny.
Some just last longer than others. It's always a crapshoot with these trannies.
My stocker handled TONS of abuse, from the day I bought it in Dec 2003. I put 50,000mi before I replaced it with a hardened one with 3.29 gears.
The 4th gear is always the one that takes the most abuse, since it's weak, and the splines get torn up real easily when the torque converter locks and unlocks in 4th. When you're on the highway, and doing between 45-60mph, there's lots of lock/unlock. Also, because our engines have alot of torque down low, when the 3-4 shift happens, it's hard on the tranny. The last thing that's hard on the 4th gear is when you are in 4th, and give it gas, and it actually goes into boost in 4th gear at around 2000rpm, with the converter locked... that's alot of torque applied at low rpm, and that's also hard on the 4th gear.
I looked at your mods. Although nice, it's not that much power over stock... you're still in the stage 1 territory, around 230-240whp. I was pulling 300+whp non-intercooled, and going to the track, and I was still doing 2 wheel burnouts on slicks on the stock tranny, and it was loving it.
Hope that helps...
