K&N as a company isn't terrible, just the design for our cars is a joke.

It's a very expensive and glorified hot air intake. Notice how they never call it a cold-air intake, it's a Fuel-Injected Performance Kit (FIPK)

If these are your only plans, I would recommend making one and put the money towards a different mod

But I suppose, if you want the Cold Air Inductions brand name in your engine bay, so be it. It has its positives such as easy install and great looks, but if you're on a budget, like most 6th Gen. Monte Carlo owners , you'd be better off making your own and putting that money towards other mods such as rockers/hv3/u-bend delete/ported tb/etc.

Regardless, an intake modification is a great start, so you're on the right track.

Well the money i got from selling my 86 is more then enough to make this car a performance car Just have to fix my intake gasket leaks first! I have all the parts including lower intake manifold gasket, just cant find the time to do it

The best thing about placing the K&N into the standard configuration is mostly that every shop will not try to sell you anything beyond the oild change that was originally asked for!

I have my K&N and the sticker under my hood. Most flakey oil change centers stop trying to up-sell a variety of services.

CAI is highly illegal in Cali, unless one can find a cool smog test center that won't fail your car because of a CAI.

they're not illegal if they have a CARB EO exempt number, which I believe K&N should have no problem obtaining.

Making a Monte Carlo a 'performance' car per say won't be fun, they get expensive but can have awesome numbers in the end. If you're serious I would look straight into an L67 swap and building from there to start dropping pullies.

Hmm i think I'm the only one in the forum that likes the k&n lol ive had it for about 6 months now no problems. Sounds amazing and works fine. But guess i haven't tried a CAI to tell the difference
