Default K&N Filter replacement

I just decided out of a whim to get the K&N while at autozone. Now my question to the rest of the MC nuts. Does it really do anything as far as power and extra mileage? I've heard so many bad things and also good things about K&N.

I have put a K&N in all my vehicles but am hesitant on putting it in my 06 Monte.

Also I have a question about the air cleaner box. I tired to clamp it shut to seal the box, but it doesnt look right to me.

I personally think the KN is a better filter and love it.

As for the air box not shutting tight, can you take a picture and post it? Really you should have a good seal all the way around. If still unsure, put the old air filter back in and see if it fits better or at least note what the box looks like with the stock filter in place.
