Does anyone happen to know if the k member on a 1985 standard is the same as a 1984 SS ? I pulled the 1969 396 out of my 85 and trying to install into my 84SS and am running into a clearance problem between k member and oil pan. Any Ideas?

Have you considered a different style oil pan? Or you could also Modify the oil pan by maybe creating the proper clearance and or try using an oil pan from a different model year ?

Apparently theres a difference from one model year to the next...
So I'd say the easiest resolve would be to try an oil pan from 1984 and compare the difference to the 1985..

Then you should have a better idea s to which one would work best with the least amount of Modifications if need be.

Have you tried changing out the motor mounts?... since your converting from a small block to a big block 396!

Or you may have to completely change the motor mount locations..
and move it further back towards the firewall for clearance?

Please keep us posted of your findings/progress and the what the fix is.

Thanks StumpMi. Different oil pan looks like the way to go. I pulled this motor out of my 1985 Standard Monte, The only thing different is I have Moroso solid mount in the 1984 SS. The K's must be different. I tried to move the mounts back one hole. oil pan to k clearance was good but the Hooker headers wont line up and there is not clearance for the MSD HEI. Crazy what a 1 1/2" difference makes. Thank You for your reply.
