Hi , I'm looking for help , I'm looking for an aluminum block 5.3 for a turbo build, I found a 2007 monte carlo ss in the junk , vandalism , me being ignorant to this generation of MC , I didn't think of it being front wheel drive. My question is , can I use it on a rear wheel drive transmission 4lr80 ? Anything standing in my way ?

 

If your intent is to use it for RWD (assuming you meant 4L80), then yes - skip it and get a RWD 5.3.

The LS4 has the FWD trans bolt pattern. No doubt you can make it work with adapters and spacers for the converter, but theres no reason to with the zillions of RWD 5.3s out there.

 

Ok, thank you very much, I had no idea they had a different bolt pattern. I'll leave that right where it is. Shame though , it got pretty rusty and someone took a knife to the interior.

 

Yeah, that's unfortunately why they dont go for squat compared to normal LS stuff. They're useless to pretty much anyone other than Fiero swappers and FWD people wanting to swap. So the market is extremely small.

The engine itself lasts forever like any LS, so it's not like the people with factory LS4s really have much need for them.

Definitely a great 5.3, just tougher to find as it was fairly limited in production compared to others. Best of luck in your search!
