Default Intake install problems

Hey whats up, I seem to be having some problems with my 02 ss. I disassembled the stock filter box and found a wire was attached to the bottom. I checked only to find a small silver box wired in the filter. What is this thing and how would I install this into my intake.

Hi Member: Bossnian, & Welcome 2 the MCF Family

Are you installing a Cold Air Induction System ? or, are you
making your own ? I believe the wire is for the MAF sensor.
Please post more details on what you are doing to your intake,
plus pictures of your 02 SS.

Pretty much making my own. Bought a super cheap intake and was hoping it was going to work but I guess not and I have nooo idea what a pcm is but its not my MAF. My MAF sensor is on my piping where as this wire actually goes INTO my filter box and looks like two silver things about 2 inches x 4. The only time I could actually see these two things was when I took my tube off and opened the air filter box entirely by removing two screws in the top. Also this wire runs into the front part of the engine if that helps? I'll try to get pictures asap but I'm in school currently.

Its the wire to the right of the oil cap that passes underneath the front right engine mount. (P.S. This isn't my engine but this is what I'm trying to DO! aaaaand thats my monte on the right

I really think you are talking about your PCM. Which all you would have to do is search for a PCM tray and attach that to your car.

like this for example

a "real" one is more like $200+ so it's still cheaper for the project.

How is your costs that high if you are doing it yourself? What have your purchased?

It should be like... $10 for piping, $50 K&N cone, $20-35 PCM tray, plus some way to shield the heat. Half to more than half the cost of a "real" packaged one.

Here's a shot of mine:

This honestly seems like ALOT of work. Is it even worth the time, money, or stress??
