I pretty much asked the same question yesterday about mods and warrranties and I received this from member bumpin, I would not ignore anything he has to say because he has a ton of knowlege on pretty much all GM motors, here you go with what he replied back to me with....
by the way I have an 06 with the 3.9 in it.

You've got to be careful with warranties and the powertrain warranty and mods. If they can prove that your mods caused the failure- they won't honor the warranty. For example, if you install an aftermarket FWI with the filter way down in the fender well- drive through a deep puddle and damage the engine from hydrolock- they won't fix it. Typically though, catback exhaust mods, and a CAI box are pretty safe. If you get too much more in depth than that (especially if you get to the point of a bigger cam, or some kind of boost)- then if something breaks in the powertrain, you're gonna be on shakey ground (ie break a trans hard part, or have a crankshaft failure, etc). However- they will still honor the warranty on everything else as long as it doesn't relate to the mods you've done.

-how much power are you looking to add?
-how much do you want to spend?
A cheap amount to one person might be under $100- a cheap amount to another might be a $5000 turbo kit, depends if you're a 16 year old kid working at mcdonald's, or a retired stock broker as to what is cheap to you.
Seeing that you're stock- a good first start would be a cold air intake- either a K&N or the cold air inductions. From there, headers would be a nice mod- but they're $1000, so I don't know if thats cheap for you or not. Also, if you're looking to end up with a major power gain in the end- the turbo kit might be the cheaper/easier route.

i have a 2006 ss as well and i have heard from a friend of mine who had his car tuned by a shop here in ny. His is a 2007 he had a corvette shop tune it and dyno it for about $500 and he made another 65hp. That is what i am going to do in about a week i will post the dyno sheet once it is done. But he also said dont do the tune until you put an exhaust and CAI.
