Default How did I crack my flywheel?

So I got a call from my mechanic and instead of the news of my car done he told me my flexplate was also cracked. I was puzzled because I usually dont hear of that in a car. Iv seen a few trucks crack them and shatter them though. He said he would save it and show me. But that would explain the thunking sound I heard when I started my car or put it into gear and the ticking sound. They are putting a brand new jasper transmission in. I chose jasper because of the great warrenty. 3 year 100k miles. But how do you crack a flywheel in a automatic transmission? I would like to know so i dont repeat the same mistakes. lol. If you guys want ill take a picture of the flywheel and post it when I see it.

Maybe a mis aligned starter or a loose bolt caused the crack. I have also heard a bad torque converter can cause a flywheel to crack

driving in reverse and then slamming it into drive will also crack a flywheel.
Ever been stuck in the snow? same action will kill a flywheel...

Yeah, most deff be careful bout the swapping reverse -> Drive ordeal. My sister screwed her car up like that doing it waaaaaaaay too fast. I usually just creep out and maybe shift soft and let it roll to take off then gas. Or I just come to a dead stop.

Yea. the tranny would sometimes take a moment to get in to gear and I would put gas in to it and then it would slam in. Tried not to but my drive way is high traffic in mornings and evenings.
