Default Help with transmission 4t65eHD

Hello!
I have a 2005 Monte Carlo SS, havent driven it as my main car since april 2018, so im lookin to have it as my weekend car hopefully by early summer. Ive put so much money into mods for this car, parts mostly from ZZP. Ive installed headers in late 2017 then the transmission started acting up, I thought it was the heat being too close to the transmission but my buddy said thats likely not the issue because I placed heat shields in proper places. Anyways since I got a new daily car, I've bought & installed intercooler, ported intake,LQ4 maf, 3.1 pulley, #65 injectors, fuel logs, aluminum radiator and upgraded the exhaust system to match the headers. After more experience and research I strongly suspect that its the transmission filter that needs to be changed, the oil gets burnt and just be heavily slipping. So I kinda wanna just buy a new transmission, because if I do a transmission filter service I could only be buying 500 more miles of transmission life for all I know. & I also bought a torque converter and flexplate from zzp black friday so the wheels are kinda already in motion to do something about the transmission.
I plan on getting it from milzymotorsport.

So my main question would be, what's so much difference about the "1" vs "7/8" single chain? Performance is nice but I also want durability, also remember this will be a weekend car. I just wanna know if spending more on a single chain is really worth it rather than a double chain. I've got about $5000 saved for the tranny & about $2000 prepared for labor.

Instead of going to milzy, check out tripleedgeperformance.com

That man knows more about these transmissions than anyone I know.

Definitely wasnt the headers that hurt the trans. The headers are far enough from the trans that you're not really transferring any notable heat there, especially with the car moving and air flowing through the engine bay. If the fluid is burning, its probably from slipping clutches.

After more experience and research I strongly suspect that its the transmission filter that needs to be changed, the oil gets burnt and just be heavily slipping.
If the oil is burnt and the filter is so full of crap that it can't suck enough fluid to move without slipping, then the trans is shot. As you noted, it might clear up a bit for a very short time with a filter change, but its already destroyed. But ive never seen a 4t65 with toasted fluid get a fluid/ filter change and go on to live a long life.

I wouldnt. They're not known for building 4t65s and TBH they dont have a good reputation in the 3800 community just in general.

I'd 2nd Chibi's reccomendation for triple edge. I thought they quit building 4t65s last year, but maybe they restarted or could at least get you the parts you need.

About $2000. Seriously. A real 1" GMR chain is a legit GM drag car proven part. A 7/8" chain is at absolute best a very tiny step above stock (and even thats debatable).

I wouldnt go anywhere near a 7/8 chain as the breakage rate is enormous. It would probably hold your current level but so would a stock chain. If you're spending big bucks for a rebuild / upgrade, I'd avoid the 7/8".

I also think a real 1" GMR chain is overkill for you as well unless you've got much bigger plans in the pipeline. I'd strongly suggest going with the GXP chain as thatll be plenty to handle what you've got now with room to grow. Ive even seen them used in some fairly healthy turbo setups (450+ whp with success). Of course it all depends on how hard you plan to drag race it.

I third the Triple Edge Per trans...

Ive had a few good experiences with Milzy but no way I would go to him for a trans.
