Help! 06 Shifter stuck in park
Hey guys
I'm new here and desperately need some help with my 2006 Monte.
Pulled up to the bank today and parked on level ground. Came out and couldn't get the shifter out of park. Tried rocking car back and forth but it seems to be the switch or solenoid that stops car from going into gear without pushing brake pedal, that is the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Can you turn the key? If you can turn the key to ON then try turning the wheel all the way left and then all the way right. You could try just disconnecting your negative battery terminal and leaving it off for and hour and hooking it back up. That's what I would try atleast.

Then I reached deep down to the right of the pivot point of the shifter under the console. The point where the shifter pivots doubles as a button.
Use your right hand, reach way down there, and push the pivot/button to the left while sitting in the driver's seat.
The shifter should easily move while the button is depressed.
I had a busted wire on the connector that moves with the shifter. You will see it if you remove as much of the console as you can.
Hope this helps.
