help! looking for some easy mods?
2000 Monte Carlo SS 3.8L (non-supercharged) with only 50,000 miles on it, bought it 2 years ago with 18,000. I'm looking to do a few easy mods to my car to get it little faster nothing too expensive.my buddy has the Chevy tuning software i need to remove the rev limiter and other such tuning options. anyone have a 2000 SS (non supercharged) with PCD Performance Chip in it? wondering if it was even worth it thanks guys.

If your buddy has tuning software- a full street tune should net a nice hp increase for free, minus the cost of gas.
Yeah to tune the car would probably add about 30 or more horses. But if your going to add anything else in the future (turbo, supercharger, ect) then you would have to re-tune the car to make sure it can work appropriately with the hardware. I thought about putting the performance chip in mine but since I cannot find a good one, I am just going to re-program the brain currently in the car(basically tune). But yeah it would be a great help for horses and BIG drop in gas mileage, especially on the V8 5.3L.
30hp from a tune alone on an L36 isn't going to happen- thats ~24 whp which is more hp than rockers, or headers would give.
Also, I'm curious on your source for this.A custom tune mostly involves adjusting the fueling tables so that your trims lock in at 0 at WOT, instead of the thing adding or subtracting fuel all over the place like it does on a stock tune. There is no reason that your gas mileage should drop significantly under normal driving.
BIG drop in gas mileage

Why would you want to remove the rev limiter?
More revs doesn't mean more power. I've never seen any stock vehicle making power past the stock rev limiter. In most cases, the powerband starts dropping before the rev limiter anyway.

the best thing that came out of the tune was probably the speed limiter gone, and the skip shifts ---always fun, especially on the freeway. other than that the tranny picks up a little quicker from the line pressure bump. i didnt lose any gas mileage at all.
i've never heard of removing the rev limiter, only heard of raising the rev limiter. thats it.
