Sounds like a problem with the Cat converter, 05 is kinda early, they usually don't surface until like 50 or 60 k miles. Take it to a shop, they can test the pressure in the manifold between the cat converter and the engine, if you take it to GM they'll know what you're talking about.

What happens? The engine tries to go faster, but it puts out more exhaust, which backs up due to a plugged Cat converter, and actually reduces power, so it makes the rpm drop... then it tries again... same thing... over and over, causing the 'surging' that you get. If you take it to gm they extended the warranty of the emissions systems, so if you're under 100k (I think that's how long it goes) then they'll probably replace it at no charge.... or get a high flow aftermarket, and they'll probably do the labor no charge, either way is a win-win situation. Better mileage, better power, boo-ya!

NO, if you installed a K&N filter, I guarantee that it will not void any part of your warranty.

I really think that no matter what the issue is, you will not have a problem with the dealer taking care of it for you.

Good luck!

X2. The KN Air filter will not cause you to loose your warranty on a cat converter. If they give you hell, point them to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
