I know years ago my step brother had an issue with his Grand Am power steering line. It went metal, rubber, metal, rubber, metal. The rubber pieces had crimped on connections to the metal pieces. This was a factory line. Somewhere in that, the metal line broke. He tried to splice in a piece of hose, double clamped it. It would last a couple of weeks, then the lines separated, he's clamp it back on, couple of weeks later, blew apart again. After the 3rd time, he went and bought the proper replacement line.

I think his root problem with the repair attempt was no flare to keep the line from backing off. It was a good short term band-aid.

I might advise, carry a fire extinguisher in your Monte as a "just in case". If anything happens, first sign of smoke, turn it off, pop the hood and put it out.

I agree with Mike (03SSLE) on his points about the line and making sure things are right.

JC, I know you've done some great repairs with your Monte and I am sure you will get this one taken care of right and safe.

Thanks guys. I know you all have my best interest at heart. and believe me, this is making me very nervous. I cant afford to HAVE to get another car right now. Shoot, I can't afford to get gas for my car right now.
The leak is not coming from the rubber hose but from the Factory formed line about a quarter inch above were it is connected. I don't plan on doing this as a permanent solution. But just so I can get by for a bit. my Finances are so Tight its cutting of the circulation to my brain. But that's another story.

I will be very careful. But I gotta do something to make it better for the next two weeks. I can't NOT drive the car and I can't leave it the way it is!
I agree with you all about the Rubber hose. But if I don't even have Junk Yard $$$ what am I to do. You guys here know I am not a Gerry Rig type of guy. You all know the work I've put into this car and the $$$ I have spent on it. And you know the Level of knowledge I have. For now, This is the best solution I can come up with. For Now! I promise it will not be PREMINENT!

JC, I have every bit of confidence that you will make things work and as right as they can be. I think all of us share the same concern and understand the situation. We just don't want to see if go from bad to ugly.

Pardon me a moment (I am suffering from a headache at the moment)..... Is the leak on part of the metal line or the plastic part? If it's the plastic part, I think DorMan has a replacement kit for that.

These problems ALWAYS happen at the worst times

Jason, It's on the Plastic Part. It actually looks like the Plastic has come out of the Rubber a bit. The Plastic is black but where it is leaking from is white. So at lunch today I am going to try and reseat the plastic into the rubber and clamp it down. The car had this set up when I got it almost 2 years ago and it lasted this long. I think this started in Dec. 2013. so I figure if I reseat it and clamp it down good I should be ok until I can replace it with the proper parts. Gotta get all this done before inspection at the end of April. (see my post in Grade Your Monte) I think this is why I have a slight Engine stutter. Fuel pressure is not steady. It never ends. But I'm not giving up. YellaJAC will be a SHOW WORTHY car. There's no Giving up on her. I got "The BUG"! ;-)

I love your spirit JC!

And I love your goal to make YellaJac show worthy! Time and effort that has a goal with a pay off

I watch some of that video. Those guys did a lot of work and spent a lot of money. But the car wasn't a daily driver. So I think it's going to take me a bit longer. Plus, I don't really want to take it to competitions, I just want it to look like I do. It's like my Tatoo. I got it for me. I get pride from my Monte when Regular folk like yourself compliment her. That last forever. Trophies brake! I don't want to take her to the track. Just want her to perform as best I can make her on the street. Show up that kid in the Honda who can spend butte tons of money on his/her Rice Burner cause they live at home. Thats all!!!!!

I'm with ya. The take away I had from that video was that I think they had less then $5000 (Austalian, and I believe things in Australia cost more then in the U.S.) form donations to make a show car. They began with a $500 beater (it had a good body that didn't need much body work) and took off with it.

As you said, not a daily driver, but it was still an unlikely choice to make a "show car" from that quickly. Engine swap, auto to manual trans conversion, new seats, added a turbo.... Pretty cool stuff and it's clear that some of how they met their goal was donations from other companies.

YelloJac is probably in the same boat I expect my '84 Camaro to be. In the end, she may not be 100% show quality, but she'll look great, run great and be worthy of some compliments

WelloJac is lucky to have an owner like you. Dedicated, has a dream and gets his hands dirty to get there

I just sent you a Friends Request. You have to be on my Friends list to PM me. Couldn't find your first name in your profile!

Everyone,
I tightened up the top clamp on that hose. Noticed that the return hose has 2 clamps on each end and the hose is longer. I may just try to put another clamp on the pressure line. At any Rate I got it to leak a lot less at Hi RPMs. Maybe a drip. I hate having Medium Big hands and working in TIGHT Tight spaces!!!! But I'll get it. I Ain't Beat Yet!!!!!

Strange, I added it quite a while ago... Went in to check and it wasn't there... Added again... Thanks, Damien...

Sounds like your getting closer to a safe solution...
