Default Flashing CEL

i was driving to my friends to pick him up, when my check engine light started flashing, it would flash for about 15 seconds then stop then start flashing again, is there any specific reason? or should i just run the codes. Im gonna do that anyway but if anyone know what the reason might be based just on that let me know..

the car is a 96 Z34

im not 100% sure but i think when the light flashes its no longer an emissions issue and its internal. i used to have a 97 lumina with the 3.1 not sure if thats the same engine. great overall engine only had one problem with it. i was driving to work and the check engine light started flashing, turned out to be a broken rocker arm??? idk what that is but it was like 500$.

the car seemed to be running fine though, the only weird thing was that the speedo kinda twitched a bit every now and then

loose grounds possibly? or bad alternator not giving out enough power to the battery when the engine is under power

Usually a flashing CEL indicates that there is a misfire at the time it flashes. You need to check for both existing and pending codes. If it seemed to run ok then I would have to guess the alternator/battery may be giving up the ghost. You can go to AutoZone and they can check both.

Since it has been winter here and in the - weather it hasnt done it.. Only did it in hot weather and when the car was Hot.. Soo its something with the tranny or clogged cat and no one can tell me.....

Definately have the battery checked out. Most any auto store can do that. A bad battery - like bad cells will create havok with the electrical system.
