Default Finally did an oil change on my Dale Jr.

I finally did an oil change on my Dale Jr for the first time since I bought it in Dec. I discovered that the oil filter was not on very tight. I put the strap wrench on the filter and barely moved it and it turned. I'm glad it didn't come loose enough to lose my oil and blow the engine up. That would have sucked. Whatever shop she had the oil change done at sure didn't pay attention to the filter tightness. That is one of the reasons I change my own oil.

Well technically, they shouldnt be put on very tight at all. You are supposed to screw it on until the seal comes in contact with the seat and then give it another half to full turn tight. Alot of people put them on TOO tight actually and crush the seal. You should be able to turn off an oil filter by hand, without a filter wrench if it was put on properly.

I always put a little oil around that seal so that it slides off easily. I usually just put them on hand tight. Some guys like to put a filter wrench on their and tighten the **** out of them... em em em

I used to take the corolla to this place that tighten the hell out of the filter so whenever i felt like doing it myself it would take forever for it to come off, i no longer go there.

I always hand tighten a filter on and never use a filter wrench. I also am never able to take one off without the wrench after putting one on. This filter was not on very tight at all.
