engine swap

engine swap
ok. so i have a 1995 monte carlo Z34, it has the 3.4L DOHC in it. What would it all take to swap it to the L67 engine. the engine comes with a wiring harness and PCM. What else would i need to do this swap, and about how many hours labor? i am looking for answers from some one who is in the process or has already done the swap.
Thanks,
Daniel.

On this section of the forum, if you looked 2 posts above this one you would have seen a great thread.

Good luck with the engine swap if you do it.

Doing a whole interior harness sounds like a MASSIVE pain.
I looked at the C100 connector for a 95 vs 96 3.4 dohc, and they don't seem that different. The 96 has an ignition feed on the A1 pin, where the 95 has nothing. The 95 has an ignition feed on the A3 pin, where the 96 has nothing (don't know why they moved it).
Then the 96 has an ignition feed to the ICM and PCM on the E1 pin where the 95 has an engine oil level sensor output (not sure why it has an extra oil level pin- the later cars dont have this). Lastly, the 95 has a fused B+ wire going to a maxi fuse on pin L1.
As for the obd2 plug change, I can't imagine it would be that hard to do. The OBD2 plug should only have 4 wires- data on pin 2, a chassis ground on pin 4, a signal/pcm ground on pin 5, and B+ battery on pin 16. (just going by a quick google search anyways- obviously some cars use more of the pins). Your OBD1 plug should already have a chassis ground and the data wire- so you'd only need to hook up your signal ground to the pcm's ground, and get a constant +12 power wire to it. They didn't move the data wire in the C100 as far as I can tell (didn't look at every year/engine combo though)- so as long as you use the 98/99 Z34 harness, the data wire should be good to go on the pcm end all the way to the obd connector. The new Z harness takes care of the underhood obd2 conversion- so the only thing I'd think that would matter for obd2 inside is the obd2 plug under the dash (I don't think that data line goes through anything else from the C100 to the plug, but I could be wrong- I could always flip through the wiring diagrams if needed).
I'd just rather try all I could to make the stock harness work than have to pull all that crap out and replace it- and hope they didn't change any plugs or locations of anything between your model and the new harness.

I just want to do this as my highschool project and be more of a success than my friends will ever be. i dont care really how long it will take i just want to do it and feel like a success. i have the money for the engine for sure. i dont think i will have to pay for labor. because i have a friend who has done swaps on his buick and knows everything about 3800 supercharge. im not to affraid i just wanna know more about the OBD-2 and PCM stuff. cause im 16.. hey im young and stupid lol. i want this to be a HUGE learning expirence b4 i look at going to wyotech.
