I got in the car and started the car. It was about 33 degrees. The car started up fine, then I cut the car off and i heard a winding sound coming from the hood. I ofened the hood and the fan was on. And it was making a loud annoying sound. It stoped once I turned the car back on. After driving about 35 miles I noticed that my temp guage wasnt moving at all. I started watching it closly and I drove another 15 or so miles and the guage didnt move at all.
I have no idea what is going on.

 

I forgot to mention that it is a 2001 Monte SS.

 

coolant temp sensor, thermostat, and rad fan relay and switch

check all those, i would start with the thermostat and while your doing the thermostat check the coolant temp sensor

 

i had the same problem and mine was the thermostat would just get stuck open

 

the fan turning on at key off means the temp is pretty high. my guess is the temp sensor.

 

Well after driving the car for a couple days, the temp guage works now, also the fan stoped coming on and off at will. Could that be a lesser of an issue or should I get that looked at. Where is the temp sensor located. I am no mechnic however I am very well mechnically enclined. If you explain to me what to do I can very well accomplished the mission.

i'd swap out the coolent temp switch and the fan relay. hey they arent THAT expensive and relitivly easy to do. (note to self need a new relay in the gn [sm=headbang.gif] )
