Default Engine

Had trouble with my engine, rods packed their bags etc. rebuilt the head and new spark plugs and wires, I’m looking for a company that would spec me out a motor the way I want it built, I know it’s not gonna be cheap but I really love my car and I wanna keep it, any good recommendations on a company that will spec me a motor for 6000-7500$ thanks guys I really appreciate it!
it’s for a 2006 Monte Carlo ss 5.3v8

Just curious, how much power are you looking for? If you're looking for more than a SBE LS4 can handle, hopefully you've got a fully built trans coming with it.

There are tons of shops out there that do LS engines though. We cant really help much with suggestions as you're not specific on what you're looking for within that budget- is that just a bottom end, bottom end + heads, complete engine, etc? Also what are you custom spec'ing? Theres a huge difference in cost between a lightly tweaked stock rebuild and all out forged bottom end so it's impossible to tell how much money is left for labor in your budget.

I would be interested in hearing about what your ideas are for your build. For that kind of money it should be no issue getting a engine built. Machine work isn't that expensive so a lot depends on what parts you want inside the engine. Most shops have a set rate per hole which is usually comparable to the other shops in the area. Engine shops have no problem boring a block , porting heads and clearancing for different stroke crankshafts . Other than installing parts it should be simple on their end.Things such as turbos, intake and custom exhaust are out of the engine shop's hand and would fall back on your plate.

I found a receipt from a few years back when I built my engine. Prices probably went up some but might give you a idea. Bore and hone block $190 , Deck V8 block $150 , Line hone up to 5 caps $150 , R&R cam Bearings $50 , Install frost plugs $30 , Wash block $80 I did disassembly and assembly so I can't give you that price but guess it would be around $200ish for assembly. The rest of the cost of your build is going to parts and the sky is the limit. Most engine shop's allow you to supply your own parts which saves you money. One thing to remember is there isn't going to be a warranty unless you can prove they did something wrong even if they assembly the engine so its very important to do research on your combination.

I already have a built transmission for the car, everything was upgraded to handle the power and then some, the transmission I’m not worried about it’s just the engine

mainly a rebuilt motor with an upgraded cam to add some power, the transmission was fully rebuilt by a custom shop where I live, its rated for over 500hp my car only puts down a little over 300 to the wheels, the heads have already been replaced as long as the lifters in each as well, probably also looking to bore it out to a true 327ci and all the stuff that comes with that, pistons etc.

1" GMR chain in the trans?

JMO, but spending $7k on built bottom end just for 2 extra cubic inches and a cam sounds pretty excessive. Just picking up another low mile stock bottom end would easily handle that power level as evidenced by the 500+ whp turbo LS4s out there. Youd need to get well beyond the point of destroying your built trans before the stock LS4 bottom end became a concern for strength.

For a 2006 Monte Carlo SS 5.3V8, shops like Marv LS Engines, Box Performance, or SmallBlockChev.com can build a custom engine to your specs within your $6,000?$7,500 budget. Make sure to discuss exactly what you want and get a clear price before they start.
