Well, I would go with a hydraulic flat tappet cam, and probably new hydraulic lifters if its going in a street car. Can you give us some more specs of the engine and your expectations? Torque converter, heads, intake, fuel system (is it going to be carbureted or fuel injected), etc? Choosing the right cam to match your setup is the most important part of making good power while retaining good streetability.

Basic cost for a cam and lifter set is going to be around $200. If you dont know much about your engine, this cam is about as big as I would go if you have power brakes on the car. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku

You also may need new valve springs, depending on what heads you have.

If you go with too high of a lift, you will lose vacuum and your vacuum operated brakes will not work very well.

what is the compression of the motor what heads are on it ??
your gonna need a cam&lifters and you should do the valve springs too the last thing you want is valve float.

I don't know squat about specific cams for the SBC, but I do know that you need to give far more information about the specific setup you plan to run- there have to be thousands of possibilities for cam choice depending on the setup you plan to run and what you plan to do with the car.
