One thing I don't do tho is out used oarts on jack lol just a prefrance
Owen, have you tried jump starting it. I can't say that it will work If your security light is flashing at you, but If it is not and the problem is with the battery and it shows 11.5v, it should jump. I think?
Mine wouldn't start (25 miles from home) recently. I posted a thread here about it. It was, as I suspected, the ignition switch. I got a new one from Amazon and no more non-starts or any other weird behavior (cruise light, security light, info center). The switch was easy to change. Just need to make sure to turn the key to disengage the lockout cable.
I opened the old switch and 2 contacts were badly burned. Then I threw it in the trash.

thats your choice, but to diagnose a possible problem, i would rather buy a junk yard starter for $25 and have a lifetime full replacement warranty vs a $175 starter from autozone that has a limited lifetime warranty.
to me, the choice is clear, but if you have disposable income, go for it, its your money.
my money will go, and has gone to (many times), the junk yard part. cant think of one time that i felt i got screwed by the junk yards.

Its weird jc, one moment it starts and the next it won't. Battery is at 12.1 now that the lights aren't on. Then the security light was on and last time it wasn't, but last time the security light came on it started. I just took out the starter and it looks old and nasty. I'm really hoping this is the problem I'm getting it tested tomorrow.

the starter can test "good" and still be bad. your issues seems like some sort of intermittent issue. sometimes it works, sometimes not. if it is the starter, it could very well be the same for whomever is testing it.
its the ignition or the starter. not the battery IMHO. as long as the battery terminals are clean and connection is strong with the post and the wire, the battery is fine.

Ok I have a few questions if it is the ignition switch how do I replace and and where is it locAted? Is it hard to do? And do I need to do anything after I installed it. According to rock auto its cheaper than a starter so I'm thinking about switching this out first. Is this the right part tho?

that looks to be the right switch for the key ignition. though i will say the initial cost may be cheaper than a starter. but you may find yourself paying more in the long run to have the switch installed and keyed for your car.
i would go with the starter route first. do a junk yard one, if it still does it after, then spend the money on the ignition.
if it works after the start fix, then you dont have to spend anything else, and you have a perfectly fine replacement part. its just a junk yard starter, its not like you are taking a chance on a motor or transmission.
