RE: 98 monte
L67 swap (3800 SC)
You 3100 would need tons of work just to add 30-40hp, and it would still be slower, or just even with a stock Z34 (L36 - NA 3800).
If you need details on how to go about swapping your drivetrain (including tranny), visit mymonte.com, or motorswap.org for info. Send me a PM if you need some specific links... I know of a good few.
Good luck!

RE: 98 monte
there is another option.....
get a topswap for it... and before you jump at me lav lol... im talking about the upper section off the 3400 heads to TB... (topswap also refers to swaping the heads and SC off the SC3800's to the NA version)
but there are a few people who have done this... also some have done the same thing using the newer 3500 engine. your best resource for this info is 60degreev6.com
this swap, a good cold air intake, full headers and exhaust, and some minor mods tossed in will give prob in the area of about 100 over what you got now.
